Angus Young is the enigmatic and ever-charismatic rock guitarist and singer. He was part of the group known by the stage name “AC/DC”, a group considered “one of the most influential and important rock bands in history” by the editor of Kerrang! magazine. Angus Young – Biography,

Angus Mckinnon Young was born on December 31, 1955 in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. As a child, he lived with his family in Glasgow, at number 6 Skerryvore Road, Cranhill to be more precise. He was not left out either as he started working at a very young age as a saw/machine operator in a cement/asbestos processing company. He also worked as a wheel boy. Educationally, Angus was enrolled at Ashfield Boys High School. However, he never finished high school, as he dropped out at age 15.

When he was much older, Angus Young served during World War II in 1940 as a flight engine mechanic for the Royal Air Force. When the war was over, he found work as a postman and later as a construction worker, employed by a builder. More so, in Young’s family, all of his brothers played an instrument. The first musical instrument he learned to play was the banjo, which was re-strung to six strings. He then started playing the guitar after his mother bought him an inexpensive second-hand acoustic model. Later, in 1970, Angus purchased a used Gibson SG from a music store near his home.

Career

His first experience with a structured music group was in a band named Kantuckee. The band consisted of band members including: vocalist Bob McGlynn, Jon Stevens on bass, Trevor James on drums, and Angus Young on guitar. Unfortunately, the band disbanded, causing Young to join another band named “Tantrums,” where he was guitarist, Jon Stevens, bassist, Trevor James, drummer, Mark Sneddon, guitarist and vocalist. Due to his dissatisfaction with the band, Angus Young later joined a band formed by one of his brothers, George Young, and his musical partner, Harry Vanda.

The name of the band was “Marcus Hook Roll Band. Together with the other members of the band, an album called “Tales of Old Grand-Daddy” was released in 1973. In the same year, in 1973, when he was 18 years old, his older brother, Malcolm, decided to form a band they named AC/DC. Angus was the lead guitarist, Larry Van Kriedt was the bassist, Collin Burgess was on drums, Malcolm Young was the rhythm guitarist, and Dave Evans was the band’s vocalist.

Trying to achieve a personal look for himself, Angus Young experimented with different styles and costumes, including a gorilla costume, Spider-Man and Zorro. He also dabbled in a Superman parody called Super-Ang.
