People gathered in Boswell, Somerset County to celebrate the Christmas season by visiting local churches.

Boswell Area Street Committee put together an open house for churches in the area.

Two churches, St. Andrews Lutheran Church and All Saints Catholic Church, opened their doors Sunday afternoon to welcome visitors.

"We are bringing people in to enjoy our festive decorative churches for Christmas. In hopes to bring people closer to God and invite them in. Make them feel wanted and at home,” said one member of All Saints Catholic Church, Christina Nichols.

Members felt very proud to show off their churches.

"It was quite an honor but the church is here for the community. We try to keep the doors open for as many people to come and give people hope for 2020,” said one member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Mike Volk.

Nichols says it takes over two hours to decorate All Saints for Christmas.

And members are happy others enjoy it as much as they do.

"Well, I’d say our church is one of the most beautiful churches at Christmas time. People come from all over to see the church. I know personally we have people from Pittsburgh come to look at it. We take pride in it. This year we have about 15 volunteers to decorate so it's a group effort,” said Nichols.

Volk shared what he hopes visitors will take away from attending the open house at St. Andrews.

"Just the hard work that goes into these churches and perhaps the support the church can give to the community and the people that attend,” said Volk.

Boswell Area Street Committee next event will be held on Jan. 25 when there will be a free turkey dinner.
