Central City home deemed total loss after late night fire
Multiple emergency crews were on scene of a house fire Friday night on Bunker Hill Road in Central City, Somerset County, according to Central City Fire Chief Dale Russian.
Russian said the call came in just after 10:30 p.m. and that the home was an unoccupied building with a detached garage that was fully involved when crews arrived on scene.
Officials said that the fire rekindled about an hour after being put out the first time, with wind spreading the fire to the garage, and that crews struggled putting out the blaze due to the weather and location of the home.
According to Russian, nearly 100,000 gallons of water were used to put out the blaze before it rekindled.
Russian stated that both the house and garage were a total loss, but no injuries were reported and the cause is not being treated as suspicious.
Officials said that, in addition to the Central City Fire Department, crews from Shanksville, Stoystown, Hooversville, Scalp Level-Paint, Windber and Northern EMS assisted during the incident.
