Students and staff at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology, in Centre County, spent part of their Tuesday celebrating the birthday of the school's therapy and emotional support K9 Rudie.

The Belgian Malinois will be eleven years old on Wednesday.

He's a retired explosive detection K9 who served with the Penn State police for ten years.

Rudie was adopted by Spring Township police officer Shane Dickey, who serves as the school resource officer.

Staff at CPI say the K9 brings joy to everyone each school day.

"Rudie just boosts morale when he comes in the door, the students just love him, he gets lots of scratches. It just gives a smile to everybody. I know he brightens my day. Rudie has been an amazing addition to CPI."

For Rudie's birthday, CPI is holding a fundraiser for the "Paws of Honor" and collecting supplies for local animal shelters.

The fund and supply drives wrap up on Wednesday.
