Somerset company mourns loss of 3 workers killed in I-83 work zone crash
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Three construction workers killed Wednesday morning in eastern Pennsylvania all worked for Somerset-based CriLon Corp, company officials confirmed.
State police say the three workers were killed just before 4 a.m. in an active York County work zone along Interstate 83.
They say a box truck being driven by a 24-year-old crashed into a construction vehicle before hitting the three workers on the shoulder of the road.
Authorities say all three workers were pronounced dead on scene.
6 News spoke with the mother of one of the victims.
She identified him as 24-year-old Jesse McKenzie of Meyersdale.
CriLon Corp Thursday did not identify any of the workers killed but said in a statement they’ve been “devastated by the tragedy that claimed the lives of three of our dedicated employees”
Company officials go on to say, “this tragedy re-emphasizes the need for the motoring public to be extra vigilant, avoid distracted driving and obey all posted signs at highway construction sites.”
