bill passes through PA House
A bill that said student teachers in Pennsylvania will be paid passed through the State House. Lawmakers said they are proposing student teachers get a grant of $10,000 with this bill.
The bill says the grant money would come from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
It said teachers who take in a student teacher would also be rewarded $2,500.
Officials said there are over 5,000 student teachers in the state each year.
They say the estimated yearly cost of the program is about $67 million.
School officials and teachers said this would be a welcomed change.
It still must pass through the State Senate before making the program official lawmakers said.
The bill states even if it is passed, student teachers might not be paid until the spring semester of the upcoming school year.
