Wildfire Spreads To 3,800 Acres In Ocean County
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service made substantial progress in Manchester Township fighting the fire that destroyed 3,859 acres.
The Jimmy’s Waterhole Fire had only been 10 percent contained as of 1:30 a.m., and 75 structures were threatened. That number dropped to 20 structures by noon Wednesday.
Earlier evacuations were ordered in Lakehurst from Division St. to Route 70, Horicon Ave, and Beckerville Road.
Residents were relocated to the Manchester Township High School and are being supported by the American Red Cross, Manchester Township EMS, Manchester Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.
The following roads were closed:
- Route 539 is closed from Route 70 to Long Swamp Road.
- Route 70 is closed Lakehurst Circle to Beckerville West Road.
- Horicon Avenue.
- Beckerville East Road and Beckerville West Road.
Both the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Fire Department were working to control the blaze.
